How iLovedThatWine handles your information

• • Your wine entries are private to your account. There is no public feed and no shared reviews.
• • We do not sell your personal information.
• • We run no advertising and no ad-tracking cookies.
• • You can delete your account and saved entries from your profile on any plan. Backups and some provider records may remain as explained below.
• • Service providers help operate the app, including hosting, payments, email, and optional sign-in services. Scanning sends your selected photo to OpenAI. Optional Google Analytics stays off until you accept it. Section 7 explains these services.

The sections below explain these choices, the providers involved, and retention limits in more detail.

iLovedThatWine is created and operated by Phil Denoncourt, the controller of the personal data described on this page.

We collect information you provide directly when you use iLovedThatWine, including:

• • account details such as your email address, a password hash if you use password sign-in, and optional name
• • wine journal content such as bottle names, notes, ratings, prices, favorites, buy-again flags, and related details
• • bottle photos you choose to upload or capture
• • your current coordinates when you allow location access while adding a wine; we use them for a nearby place lookup and do not save the coordinates with your entry
• • support or feedback messages you send us

We use your information to operate and improve the app, including to:

• • create and secure your account
• • save and display your wine history, ratings, notes, and uploaded images
• • help you search, filter, and revisit wines you have logged
• • maintain service reliability, troubleshoot issues, and protect against abuse
• • improve the product over time

Depending on the context, we process personal data under one or more of these lawful bases:

• • performance of a contract, such as creating your account and providing the wine journal service
• • legitimate interests, such as securing the service, preventing abuse, and improving reliability
• • compliance with legal obligations where applicable
• • consent where we specifically ask for it

iLovedThatWine uses essential cookies and session-related data to keep you signed in and protect your account. These cookies are used for core app functionality and security. We also store your analytics choice in an essential preference cookie for up to one year.

We do not run advertising cookies and we do not sell or share your information for advertising purposes.

Google Analytics is optional and is not loaded until you accept analytics cookies. When enabled, Google receives visit and browser/device information to produce traffic reports. We disable advertising personalization and do not deliberately send your wine notes, ratings, photos, or account details as analytics events. Choose essential cookies only to keep analytics off. You can change your choice using Cookie preferences at the bottom of any page. Withdrawing consent stops future collection and removes the analytics cookies we can access on this site; it does not erase information already received by Google.

Bottle photos and notes you upload are stored so they can appear in your wine journal. Please avoid uploading images or notes that include sensitive information you would not want associated with your account.

Your wine entries are intended to support your personal use of the app, not a public feed.

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share limited information only when reasonably necessary to:

• • operate hosting, infrastructure, and database services
• • comply with legal obligations
• • protect the security, rights, and integrity of the service

We may rely on third-party service providers to host the app, store databases, and support core infrastructure operations.

Depending on the providers we use, your data may be processed in countries other than the one where you live. If we transfer personal data internationally, we will rely on appropriate safeguards where required by law.

The providers we currently rely on are:

• • Render — application hosting and the PostgreSQL database that stores your account and wine entries.
• • Google Analytics — optional visit and browser/device measurement after you accept analytics cookies, as described in section 4.
• • OpenAI — wine label scanning. When you choose to scan a label, that photo is sent to OpenAI so the bottle details can be read off it and offered back to you as autofill. Only the image you select for a scan is sent. Your notes, ratings, prices, venues, and the rest of your journal are never sent.
• • Google Maps Platform — nearby restaurant and winery suggestions when you allow browser location access on the new wine form. Your coordinates are sent to Google for the lookup; we do not store them with your wine entry. If you use a Google suggestion, we save its place ID and ask Google for the current place name when your entry is displayed. You can deny location access and enter a place manually. Google's Privacy Policy also applies to this service.
• • Stripe — payment processing if you upgrade to a paid plan. We never see or store your full card details.
• • Resend — your email address and transactional messages such as password resets, when email delivery is configured.
• • Google and Apple — optional account sign-in when you choose those services.

If you follow a retailer link, the retailer receives the wine search details included in that link and handles the visit under its own privacy policy. Some links may earn us a commission. We record retailer clicks associated with your account to measure those links.

We will update this list if the providers change.

We retain account data for as long as your account remains active and as needed to provide the service.

Wine entries, ratings, notes, and uploaded images are retained until you delete them or your account is deleted.

Deleting your account cancels its subscriptions before removing the profile, journal entries, and photos from the active app database. Copies may remain in infrastructure backups until they expire. Payment providers may retain transaction records, and limited records may be retained for legal, fraud-prevention, or operational reasons. Contact us for help with a specific retention request.

Security and diagnostic logs may be retained for a limited period where reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect account and journal data, but no system can promise absolute security.

You are responsible for choosing a strong password and protecting access to your devices and account.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

• • access the personal data we hold about you
• • correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• • request deletion of your account and associated data — available on every plan, including free, directly from your profile page
• • export a copy of your account data in a portable format — self-serve JSON export is free on every plan from your profile. It includes account details, session records, and wine entries, but not bottle photo files. Contact us if you need help obtaining your data
• • object to or restrict certain processing in some circumstances
• • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another region with similar rights, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

iLovedThatWine is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date on this page.
